Action Man and Gi-Joe are nearly 60 years old, and as such we end up having to do quite a lot of repairs and restorations in this little workshop of ours, we also offer a limited service to our customers

Replacing Damaged Limbs, Re-Stringing Figures, Re-Attachment of Limbs, Heads and Hands, Talk Box Repairs (MKI, MKII & 40th) and Re-Flocking Heads. Please note that we no longer offer uniform repairs as these are very time consuming, and in many cases the cost outweighs the value of the uniform being repaired.

We have over 35 Years Experience and offer a “No Fix No Fee” service, so if for any reason we can’t fix it, then all you pay for is the return postage.

Please do not send repairs to the shop, a delivery address will be supplied with your quote

A MAJOR CLEAN UP

This poor fellow arrived covered in what was left of his perished wet suit, after removing the loose bits of rubber we cut the strings and immersed him overnight in our sonic cleaner. The next day we removed a few stubborn bits of rubber, cleaned up the rivets, restrung him and packed him up ready to be sent back to his owner.

HEAD RE-FLOCKS

Re-Flocking a head might look easy, but trust me I have seen lots of heads that have been re-flocked and not all have been good. It doesn’t matter how many YouTube videos you watch or how much you spend on a flocking machine, if you haven’t got the right blend, length of flock or correct method of preparation and application, then your heads are never going to look right.

We mix all our own flock in house to get as close a match to the original as we can and make sure that the heads that we are going to flock are prepared properly.

We prepare the heads by removing all the old flock and giving them a thorough clean, then we paint the area to be flocked with an adhesive and use an electrostatic machine to apply the flock.

RETRO-BRIGHTING

Retro-Brighting is a process for removing yellowing from plastics, we have a number of different methods that we use to restore these parts, the main one being the old tried and tested Hydrogen Peroxide cream and Sunshine. This is good in the summer when we have decent weather, but here in Scotland we don’t get too many hot sunny days so have to rely on our UV tank to clean up parts and this takes a little longer to complete.

TALK BOX REPAIRS

Talk boxes can fail for a number of reasons, most can be easily repaired but as spare parts are becoming harder to find, so are the chances of a successful restoration.

MKI TALK BOXES – 1968 Talking Commander (These are the ones where the string pulls out of the chest)

Common faults

Talks too fast or too slow
Sound is muffled or very quiet
Cord pulls and retracts at normal speed but no sound
Cord pulls and retracts really fast
Cord is jammed and wont retract
Cord is jammed and wont pull out
Cord is missing or inside the torso

Repairing these is more often than not a labour of love, as the time it takes to strip down the box replace the damaged parts, clean everything up and get it working as it should can run into many hours.

MKII TALK BOXES – 1970’s Talking Commanders (These are the ones where the string pulls out of the shoulder)

Common faults

Talks too fast or too slow
Sound is muffled or very quiet
Cord pulls and retracts at normal speed but no sound
Cord pulls and retracts really fast
Cord is jammed and wont retract
Cord is jammed and wont pull out
Cord is missing or inside the torso

Repairing these is a lot easier than the MKI boxes as the parts are easier to access.

ELECTRONIC TALK BOXES – Battery operated Talking Commanders

Common faults

Talks too fast or too slow
Sound is muffled or very quiet
Cord pulls and retracts at normal speed but no sound
Cord pulls and retracts really fast
Cord is jammed and wont retract
Cord is jammed and wont pull out
Cord is missing or inside the torso

These are extremely difficult to repair as the electronic components are prone to failing and often it is difficult to diagnose where the fault lies.
